Ruth E. Bode
Ruth Elizabeth Holroyd Bode was born on October 16, 1919, at Crete, Nebraska to Elmer and Elizabeth (Wendlin) Holroyd, the 5th of eight children and passed away on Monday, Janurary 11, 2010 at the Friend Manor in Friend, Nebraska at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 26 days. She grew up on a farm northeast of Crete, and attended District # 31 in Saline County completing the 8th grade. As a young teen she worked as a housekeeper and nanny in Lincoln. Ruth was united in marriage to Bud R. Bode on July 22, l938 in Marysville, Kansas and to this union three sons, Richard, Bill and Jerry were born.
Ruth and Bud began their married life in Kansas and shortly moved to the Lincoln area where Ruth lived while Bud was in the service during WWII. The family moved several times following WW II and returned to Friend in l953. Ruth worked for Motis-Lindersmith Flooring for several years. She also worked in the dietary and housekeeping departments at Warren Memorial Hospital for 20 yrs.
Ruth was a member of the United Church of Christ and The American Legion Auxiliary both of Friend. She enjoyed walking her dog, Reggie until she fell and broke her hip in 2005. Since that time she has resided at the Friend Manor. She was an avid Husker fan and enjoyed playing cards and bingo. As a young mother, Ruth, began fishing and enjoyed going with family to local areas as well as out of state.
Ruth is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Karen Bode, Lincoln, Bill and Virginia Bode, Friend, four grandchildren, David, Barbara, Stephen and his wife, Melissa Bode, all of Lincoln and Pamela Bode of Omaha. Three great-grandchildren: Nicole and Alyssa Bode and her fiancé, Ryan Tillema and Michael Stanley and his wife, Kena, two great-great-granddaughters: Rylee Tillema and Marley Stanley, brother-in-law, Ed Fischer, Lincoln, sisters-in-law, Helen Holroyd, Geneva, Lola Holroyd, Wilber, Helen Holroyd, Lincoln, many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bud in 1993, an infant son, Jerry, great-grandson, Jordan Bode, sisters, Vivian (Mrs. Leonard) Allen, Lorraine Fischer, Marguerite (Mrs. Emil) Duffek, brothers, Alfred, Vernon, Harold and Ray Holroyd.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 15, 2010 at the United Church of Christ in Friend with the Revs. Tim and Ginny Adams officiating. Interment is in the Andrew Cemetery, Friend. Visitation is on Thursday from 11am - 8pm, with the family greeting friends and relatives from 6-8 pm at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Friend and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the Church. Memorials have been established to United Church of Christ or Warren Memorial Hospital Foundation. |
