John Treu was born July 12, 1927, in Milford, Nebraska to John and Emma (Gerlach) Treu, youngest of five children, and passed away Monday, February 1, 2010, at Sunrise Country Manor near Milford at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 20 days.
As a young man, John attended and later graduated from Milford High School with the class of 1945. John enlisted into the US Navy during WWII and served in the Pacific Theatre. After his discharge, he worked for his dad at the Treu Service Station in Milford. On Nov. 1, 1949, he was united in marriage to Shirley Bangert and to this union two children were joined into the family, Jeffrey and Jody. He was employed with Helm Construction for a period of time before working as a maintenance carpenter and later as instructor and Department Head at Nebraska State Trade School in Milford. John retired in 1991 after 40 years of service to the college. After he began employment at the college, John furthered his education by attending Colorado State University receiving a bachelor and masters degree in Education. John was an avid gun collector and gunsmith and operated, "Treu's Gun Repair" for many years. He also was involved in lawn care. John enjoyed trapshooting, hunting, fishing, snow skiing, golfing and pitched for legion baseball teams. John was a member of the St John Lutheran Church, Seward, Milford American Legion Post #171, Milford Volunteer Fire Department and the VFW of Seward. John certainly touched many people's lives and was willing to do anything for them. One of his highlights was helping his family and friends get their first deer. John and Shirley also enjoyed the many years spent at their cabin by Lynch, NE.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Jody and Joe Quartoroli, Omaha, son, Jeff Treu and fiancé, Candy Kleensang, both of Oakdale, NE; five grandchildren; Corey, Kerra and Christian Quartoroli, Abby Treu and Kari Treu, great-granddaughter, Libby Treu, sisters-in-law, Evelyn Bangert, Surprise, AZ; Betty Treu, Lincoln, and a host of other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Shirley in 2003; brothers, Melvin, Robert, Dale Treu, sister, Erma Feeken, sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth Bangert, Donald, Vernon Bangert and George Feeken.
Funeral Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at St John Lutheran Church, Seward with Pastor Bob Paulson officiating. Interment is in Seward Cemetery with military services. Visitation is 11:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Milford, and 1 hour prior to services at church. Memorials may be directed in care of the family. Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Milford, is entrusted with the care and arrangements.
