Margaret M. Bitikofer

Margaret Mary Bitikofer was born on September 3, 1913 at St. Paul, Arkansas to David Richard and May Catherine (Mayes) Lucas, the 3rd of eight children and died Saturday, February 13, 2010, at Crestview Care Center in Milford, Nebraska at the age of 96 years, 5 months and 10 days. As a young girl she attended Turner High School in Kansas City and graduated with the Class of 1936. She was united in marriage to Paul Martin Bitikofer on August 25, 1937 at Kansas City, KS and to this union five children: Roselle Pauline, Martha Kathryn, Glenn Martin, David Fred, and Peggy Sue were born.
Together they lived briefly in Canton, Kansas where she was a member of the Spring Valley Mennonite Church. Margaret was a busy mother and house wife and in later years she helped others as a caregiver. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting, sewing and ceramics. Margaret was a very good baker, baking most of her breads and rolls without recipes and made many wedding cakes for family and friends. She also enjoyed the crafts of weaving and crocheting.
She was a member of the Argentine Mennonite Church and the Argentine Ceramic Club, both in Kansas City, KS.
She is survived by her children and spouses, Roselle Pauline Sandvold, Baudette, MN, Martha "Kathy" and Willis Stutzman, Milford, Glenn Bitikofer, Kansas City, KS, David and Irene Bitikofer, N. Bonneville, WA, Peggy and Richard Bodam, Haslet, TX, 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Shirley Lucas, Parsons, KS, Vera Lucas, Chillicothe OH, Helen Lucas, Kansas City, KS, Ralph and Katherine Bitikofer, Al Bitkofer, Elizabeth Bitikofer, Luella Bitikofer, Stella Sommerfield, all of Hesston, KS, Leroy and Doris Bitikofer, Canton, KS, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Catherine Lucas, her husband, Paul in 1973, brothers, John Charles, George W., David Robert, James H., LeeRoy and William Harvey Lucas, sister, Martha King-Hontz, grandson, Phillip D. Stutzman, daughter-in-law, Ruth Bitikofer, son-in-law, Milton Sandvold and 2 great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Melvin and Cora Bitikofer, Mabel and William Nunemaker, Charlie Sommerfield, Roberta Bitikofer, Clifford Bitikofer, Henry Bitikofer, Chester King and Gerald Hontz.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Beth-El Mennonite Church in Milford with Pastor Audrun Siebert officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1-8 pm and Wednesday from 9 am - noon at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home in Milford. A second Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Spring Valley Mennonite Church near Canton, Kansas with Pastor Galen Penner officiating. Interment is in the church cemetery. Memorials have been established and are directed in care of the family. Local arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Milford.
