John H. Gerritse
John Henry Gerritse of Milford, formerly of Lincoln and Beatrice, was born February 12, 1955 in Sibley, Iowa to Evert and Grace (Jongejans) Gerritse and departed this life after a short but courageous battle with cancer on Sunday morning, February 28, 2010, at Sunrise Country Manor near Milford, Nebraska at the age of 55 years and 16 days. He attended Tri-County Public Schools and was a member of the First Mennonite Church of rural Beatrice. John was employed as a farm hand and woodcutter. In his spare time, he enjoyed doing macramé, playing chess, model building, bike riding and being outdoors. His niece, Alexis, brought enjoyment to his life.
John is survived by his two brothers and sister-in-law, Douglas and Janet Gerritse, Plymouth and Marvin Gerritse, Lincoln, niece, Alexis Gerritse, Plymouth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Evert and Grace, an infant brother and his brother Terry.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at First Mennonite Church, Rural Beatrice, with Pastor Gail Cross and PMA Maynard Kellerman officiating. Interment is in the church cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, 2-6:00 p.m. at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Milford and 1 hour prior to services at Beatrice on Wednesday. Memorials have been established to First Mennonite Church, rural Beatrice, or Sunrise Country Manor, Milford, with Robert Esau, Jr. and Dianne Ebke in charge. An additional service will be held at Sunrise Country Manor in Milford at 7:00 pm on Tuesday. Casketbearers are Don Esau, Louie Esau, Larry Thimm, Bill Goossen, Jim Ensz and Gerald Jantzen. Honorary Pallbearers is Alexis Gerritse. The organist, Charlie Runty, accompanied the congregation as they sang "Amazing Grace", "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Just As I Am." Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Milford. |
