William Veal Obituary

William Carl Veal was born on March 30th, 1936, in Benkelman, NE, to Carl and Erma (Hardwick) Veal and went to his eternal home in heaven on April 22nd, 2024, at the age of 88. As a young boy, Bill was baptized when he was 14 years old in his hometown church in Benkelman. He was in active duty from 1955-1959 and served on the USS Shangri-La and four years in reserve. Shortly after Bill was discharged from his active-duty services, he attended SCC Milford in 1959-1961 where he studied for a degree in auto body technology. While attending College, Bill met Glenda (Stutzman) Veal and after graduation they were married on September 17, 1961. From this union two children were born: Timothy and Mark Veal.

Bill had spent almost 50 years in the Auto body industry before trying his skill as a butcher at Schlegel’s Grocery Store and then went back to the body shop one year later. His favorite hobbies were camping and fishing with his sons and grandsons. He also enjoyed planting a garden in the spring and woodworking. Bill was a faithful member of East Fairview Mennonite Church in Milford, NE for 62 years.

He is survived by his wife Glenda, Children and spouses Timothy and Janine, Florance, SC; Mark and Anna, Plant City, FL; grandchildren Conner Veal, Ashville, NC; Tyler Veal, Colorado Springs, CO; Anthony Veal, Tallahassee, FL; and Adam and Nicole Flory; great grandson Ryan, Colorado Springs, CO; Sister Carol West; niece Malinda and Bill Hubbard, all of Colorado Springs, CO; sisters-in-law Merna Schweitzer and Gail Schweitzer, Milford, NE; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Jim and Cheryl Pelley, Savanna, MO; Kelly and Carol Newton, Lincoln, NE; and step brother-in-law Fred and Cathy Schlegel.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brother Stan Veal; niece Kelly Hinhel; Parents-in-law Glen and Viola (Burkey) Stutzman; step father-in-law Willard Schlegel; brothers-in-law Robert Stutzman, Bob West, Wilbur Schwitzer, and Jimmy Joe Scweitzer.

Private Family Graveside Services will be held prior to the Funeral services.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 27th, 10:00 a.m. at the East Fairview Mennonite Church.

Visitations will be held Friday, April 26th, from 2:00- 8:00p.m. with family greeting relatives and friends from 6:00-8: 00p.m at the Lauber Funeral Home chapel.

Memorials are in care of the family for a future designation.
