PHYLLIS J. HERZFELD

Phyllis Jean Herzfeld was born December 19, 1936 in Hebron, Nebraska, the youngest of 14 children born to Fred and Lydia (Fry) Harder and passed away suddenly on Monday, July 22, 2019 at her home in Milford in Milford, Nebraska at the age of 82.

As a young girl, Phyllis attended Hebron Public School.  She was united in marriage to Frank Herzfeld on March 12, 1952, at the First Christian Church and together lived in Hebron.   Frank was a truckdriver and later they moved to Kansas where he was a rancher.  A tornado forced them to move back to Hebron and later Baker City, OR for ten years where Phyllis was a car hop for a hamburger joint and in the winter at Ben Franklin’s Department Store.  Phyllis also worked at a Western Wear Clothing Store in Baker City.  They eventually moved back to Nebraska where they lived in Lincoln where she was a cashier at an IGA Store.  Frank’s employment building Interstate 80 took them out to Julesburg, CO, later bringing them to Milford where they purchased a home in Grover.  She was a cook at the Dandelion Café and the East Side Café on the interchange where she was the manager for several years.

Phyllis loved traveling in her earlier years and enjoyed taking care of her husband when his health began to fail.  She liked to Crochet and other needle work in her spare time and had a great sense of humor.  She also collected angels.

Survivors include her nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frank in 2014, brothers, Vernon, Albert, Ted, George, Paul, Don, Michael and Melvin Harder, her sisters, Clara Mount, Ruth Harder, Dorothy Harder, Anna Bloom and Mary Kolecki.
