Angela C. Cates

Angela was cremated and there will be a memorial service planned at a later date at Mount Lindo in Colorado.  Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. 

Angela Christine Cates was born April 1, 1971, in Fremont, Nebraska to Clifford and Frances (Belak) Barrick, the youngest of two children.  She passed away on Monday, October 19, 2020, at Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln at the age of 49 due to her failing health.   

As a young girl, Angela attended Grant Elementary in Fremont and later was a 1989 graduate of Medicine Valley High School in Curtis.  She was united in marriage to Joel Cates, Sr and to this union a daughter, Faye and a son, Joel Jr. were born.  Together they lived in Fremont, Hooper and Scribner where Angela was a loving mother and enjoyed raising her two children and attending their school activities.  She also worked at Hormel as a security guard and was employed at McDonalds and Subway.  Her family was the center of her life and she cherished the times spent with her grandchildren.  Angela met her significant other, Doug, in 2012, and together lived in Seward, Utica and Lincoln, where they enjoyed camping and going on road trips.  They never married but they had a promissory ceremony together in August of 2015.

Survivors include her special companion, Douglas Schneckloth, Lincoln, daughter, Faye Cates, also of Lincoln, Joel Cates, Jr, Milford, two grandsons, Noah Cates and Seth Leu,  both of Wymore, mother, Frances Miles, Lincoln, step-mother, Mary Lu Barrick, Fremont, sister and brother-in-law, Ilene Barrick and Robert Masters, Lincoln, several step-sisters and a step-brother, and a sister-in-law, Cheryl Cates, Cheyenne, WY, many nieces and nephews.   

Angela was preceded in death by her father, Clifford Barrick, a half-sister, Sheri Nunn, step-brother, Calvin Brown, and a brother-in-law, Nigel Cates.
